24/7 Emergency Breakdown Response — Cutting Downtime

Rapid response to electrical and automation faults on production lines, keeping downtime to a minimum.

When a production line stops, what is lost is not only the output of those hours; delivery commitments, shift planning and often raw material are affected too. In breakdown response, what matters is less how quickly the team arrives than how quickly the fault is correctly diagnosed. Contech responds to electrical and automation faults around the clock, and at facilities with remote connectivity, diagnosis usually begins before anyone sets off.

Response starts with the description taken over the phone: at which stage the line stopped, which alarm is showing and what was changed most recently. Those three pieces of information usually narrow the possible causes considerably. Where remote access is in place, the PLC and HMI are connected to and alarm history and I/O states are examined; some faults are resolved at this stage without anyone travelling. On site, diagnosis proceeds systematically. Supply stages are checked in order, the stage at which a protective device tripped is established and the fault point is narrowed down. On motor faults, the drive error code, motor winding resistance and insulation value are assessed together; whether the card or the motor is at fault is separated by measurement rather than swapping parts on a hunch. On the automation side, sensor, cable and input card are eliminated in sequence to find where the signal breaks. After repair the line is not taken straight to full capacity; the affected stage is run unloaded first, then under progressive load, confirming the fault is genuinely cleared. A short report is left after every visit: the cause, the work carried out and the measure recommended to prevent recurrence. The same fault appearing a third time usually points to an unaddressed root cause, and in those cases a permanent solution is planned separately.

Key Capabilities
  • 24/7 phone access, with the first diagnostic narrowing done on the call.
  • Alarm history and I/O review at remotely connected plants — some faults cleared without travel.
  • Systematic diagnosis: supply stages eliminated in order to narrow the fault point.
  • Motor faults separated by measurement; no parts swapped on guesswork.
  • Post-repair verification with unloaded and then progressively loaded testing.
  • A report after every visit: cause, work carried out and preventive measure.
  • Root cause analysis and a permanent solution plan for recurring faults.
Where It Is Applied
  • Electrical faults causing sudden stoppages on a production line
  • Automation faults originating from a PLC, drive or HMI
  • Separating card from motor on motor and drive failures
  • Out-of-hours and weekend emergency response needs

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can you be on site?

It depends on the plant’s location and current team availability, so we do not commit to a fixed figure. At facilities with remote access, diagnosis usually starts before the team sets off — the single factor that shortens total downtime most.

Do you respond without a service contract?

We do. At contracted plants, though, we know the system and hold the drawings and backup program files, which shortens diagnosis noticeably.

What do you do if the same fault recurs?

A recurring fault points to an unaddressed root cause. Rather than closing the symptom again, we carry out root cause analysis and plan the permanent solution as separate work.
