Factory Relocation — Dismantling, Transport and Reinstallation

Factory relocation is work in which every day production is down translates directly into cost. Success depends on how well the dismantling is documented: a cable loom removed without labelling turns into a puzzle that lasts weeks at the new location. Work starts with a survey stage before anything is removed. The existing plant is photographed, panel contents and cable routes are recorded, and where no drawings exist an as-built is produced. Every cable is labelled at both ends, terminal connections are photographed and panels are numbered. This documentation is the most critical phase of the move; the pace of all subsequent work is set here. During dismantling, isolation and lock-out procedures are applied and lines are taken out of service progressively. Panels are unbolted from their fixings, and sensitive cards and drives are packed separately. Cables are coiled whole wherever possible; where a cut is unavoidable, the cut point is recorded on the label. In transit, panels are protected against vibration and moisture — moisture is the most common cause of damage seen on electronic cards during long-haul moves. At the new location, installation follows the layout plan prepared before the move. Panels are positioned, cable trays are laid and connections are rebuilt from the labels. The commissioning procedure is then applied from the beginning: insulation measurement, I/O verification, safety chain testing and unloaded motor checks, before the line is brought into production progressively. Updated drawings for the relocated plant and the commissioning report are handed over.
