Precision Machine Relocation and Repositioning

Dismantling, transporting and positioning precision industrial machines without calibration error or damage risk.

Moving a single machine is not technically less risky than moving a whole factory. On precision systems such as extruders, CNC machine tools or filling machines, a levelling error of a few millimetres can turn into vibration and product quality problems that surface months after the move. Contech carries out the electrical dismantling, reconnection and recommissioning of machines while respecting the machine’s own tolerances.

Before dismantling, the machine’s current operating values are recorded: drive parameters, temperature profiles, cycle times and any calibration values are backed up. PLC and HMI programs are backed up too — should a card fail during the move, that backup prevents a loss running into days. Electrical connections are labelled as they are removed; where the machine’s own panel travels with it, sensitive components inside are separately secured. At the new location, the floor the machine will sit on, the supply point and the earthing are prepared in advance. After positioning, levelling is checked against the tolerance values given by the machine manufacturer. Electrical connections are rebuilt from the labels, insulation is measured and earth continuity is verified. In commissioning, motors are first turned unloaded and direction of rotation checked, then the original recorded parameters are loaded. The machine is brought under load progressively, and on the first production run product quality, cycle time and vibration behaviour are compared against pre-move values. Any deviation is traced back through the relocation process and resolved.

Key Capabilities
  • Operating values recorded before dismantling: drive parameters, temperature profile, cycle time.
  • PLC and HMI program backups taken, preventing days of loss if a card fails.
  • Electrical connections labelled as removed; sensitive components secured.
  • Floor, supply point and earthing prepared in advance at the new location.
  • Levelling checked against the manufacturer’s tolerance values.
  • Original parameters restored and the machine brought under load progressively.
  • Quality, cycle time and vibration on the first run compared with pre-move values.
Where It Is Applied
  • Repositioning extruders and granulation machines within a line
  • Moving CNC machine tools and machining centres to a new facility
  • Repositioning filling and packaging machines
  • Dismantling a second-hand machine and commissioning it at a new plant

Frequently Asked Questions
We do not have our machine’s program — is moving it risky?

Moving without a program backup is risky. That is why taking PLC and HMI backups before dismantling is our standard practice. Where a backup cannot be taken, the risk is stated clearly up front.

Will calibration be lost after the move?

On a machine properly secured and levelled, calibration holds. The original recorded parameters are restored, and the first production run is compared against pre-move values.
